SJU Tennis Continues Win Streak, 6-3

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – Saint John's extended its conference win streak to four matches with a 6-3 victory over Hamline on Tuesday, April 17, in St. Joseph.

Junior Fabricio Moncada (Managua, Nicaragua/Lincoln International Academy) won his fifth straight match, 7-6 (7-4) and 6-1, to improve to 14-4 (6-1 MIAC) at No. 1 singles. Sophomore Connor Rust (Rochester, Minn./Lourdes) won his match at No. 4 in straight sets (6-0, 6-1) and juniors Zach Shriwise (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley West) and Willie Paul (Duluth, Minn./Marshall) won their matches at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively, via the super-breaker. Shriwise won his extra set 11-9, while Paul claimed a 13-11 victory.

Moncada and senior Ian Hansen (Dawson, Minn./Dawson-Boyd) teamed up to win 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. Hansen suffered his first MIAC loss with a heartbreaking 13-11 decision in the super-breaker at No. 2 singles. He is now 11-4 (6-1 MIAC) on the year.

Paul and senior John Burns (Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo) improved to 3-0 in MIAC play with a commanding 8-2 win at No. 3.

The Johnnies host their annual alumni match at 4 p.m. this Saturday, April 21, at the Donald McNeely Spectrum in Collegeville before hosting St. Cloud State on Tuesday, April 24. The match is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the CSB Tennis Courts in St. Joseph.
