SJU Rolls to 3-0 Shutout at Saint Mary's

WINONA, Minn. – Seven different Johnnies recorded a point as Saint John's earned a 3-0 shutout at Saint Mary's on Saturday, Oct. 20, in Winona.

Junior Michael Coborn's (St. Cloud, Minn./Cathedral) fourth goal of the season, 5:57 into the match, proved to be the game-winning tally. Sophomores Zane Heinselman (River Falls, Wis.) and David Wee (Savage, Minn./Prior Lake) were credited with the assists for SJU (8-5-3, 5-2-1 MIAC). The goal was Coborn's 20th of his collegiate career.

Junior Matt Carson (Waconia, Minn.) tallied his second goal of the year at the 38:40 mark, with assists going to sophomores Nicholas DeVetter (Minneapolis, Minn./St. Thomas Academy) and Ian Scudder (Sherwood, Ore.).

Sophomore Josh Whitaker (Milwaukie, Ore.) ended the scoring 2:10 into the second with his third goal of the season, on an assist from Scudder. Scudder now has 15 points (6g/3a) in his last four matches, all in conference play.

Freshman Kevin Lebahn (New Hope, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's) made four saves to earn his third shutout and improve to 5-4-1 on the year (4-2-1 MIAC).

SJU is now 26-4-3 against the Cardinals, who dropped to 6-9-1 overall and 3-5-0 in the MIAC, including a 12-2-1 record in Winona (since 1981).

The Johnnies close out their regular-season schedule with a pair of home matches this week, beginning with a 7:30 p.m. contest against Hamline Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Clemens Stadium in Collegeville.
