A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: The Johnnies' string of tough luck ran to four straight matches thanks to a 2-1 loss in double overtime to No. 20 Gustavus Adolphus last Saturday in Collegeville. The Gusties' Zack Brown scored the game-winner 2:55 into the second overtime. His first goal of the match gave the Gusties (8-1, 2-1 MIAC) a 1-0 lead in the 60th minute. Sophomore Simon Plata (Annandale, Minn./Saint John's Prep) tied the match at 1-1 with his first goal of the season three minutes later. Sophomore Michael Coborn (St. Cloud, Minn./Cathedral) and freshman Josh Whitaker (Milwaukie, Ore.) assisted on the scoring play for SJU. Sophomore Ryan Brutger (St. Cloud, Minn./Apollo) made nine saves in the loss. GAC held a 21-19 edge in total shots (11-8 on goal), though SJU tallied a 9-6 advantage on corner kicks.

A LOOK AT THE AUGGIES: Four of the Auggies' six wins this season were earned with a 1-0 score, including each of the last three. Augsburg tipped St. Thomas 1-0 last Saturday at home and defeated Macalester by the same score Sept. 21 in St. Paul. Senior Ahmed Gobana and junior Josh Sweeney lead the team with eight points apiece, while sophomores Clayton Lynch and Will Morlock have split the six wins in net.

LAST YEAR'S MEETING: Sophomore Elliott Olsen (Cedar, Minn./St. Francis) tallied his first collegiate goal and Matt Anderson '11 made seven saves as the host Johnnies defeated Augsburg 1-0 on a rainy Sept. 15 last fall in Collegeville. Senior J.C. Artavia '11 won the corner kick from sophomore Michael Coborn (St. Cloud, Minn./Cathedral) and released a shot, but it was blocked by an Auggie player. The ricochet went directly to Olsen, who then dribbled into the box and unleashed a shot to the far right corner 31:15 into the match. The win was the first home conference victory for an SJU head soccer coach, other than Pat Haws, since Sept. 28, 1977. Coincidentally, the match was a 2-1 decision over Augsburg.

SERIES HISTORY: Since 1979, SJU is 28-3-3 against Augsburg, including a 14-2-1 record at Edor Nelson Field. The Auggies, however, have won each of the last two meetings in Minneapolis (4-2 and 2-1).
