SJU Suffers Second Straight 5-4 MIAC Loss

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – Saint John's dropped its second consecutive MIAC match by a 5-4 decision to Bethel on Friday, April 8, on the campus of Saint Benedict in St. Joseph.

Sophomore Fabricio Moncada (Managua, Nicaragua/Lincoln International Academy) earned his first MIAC win at No. 1 singles (6-1, 6-4), while the freshmen duo of Joe Laue (St. Louis Park, Minn./Holy Angels) and Connor Rust (Rochester, Minn./Lourdes) earned back-to-back victories at Nos. 4 (6-3, 6-1) and 5 (6-2, 6-4) singles, respectively.

Senior Elliott Elm (Eagan, Minn./Holy Angels) and sophomore Zach Shriwise (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley West) teamed up for the Johnnies' lone doubles win at No. 2, 8-2.

Junior Ian Hansen (Dawson, Minn./Dawson-Boyd) won his first set at No. 2 singles, 6-4, but dropped the next 6-4 and the super-breaker by a 10-5 decision.

The Johnnies (6-4, 0-3 MIAC) return to action Saturday, April 9, against St. Olaf. The match is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the CSB Tennis Courts in St. Joseph.
