Johnnie Tennis Blanks Saint Mary's, 9-0

SARTELL, Minn. – Saint John's won three matches in the super-breaker en route to a 9-0 win over Saint Mary's on Sunday, April 17.

Junior Ian Hansen (Dawson, Minn./Dawson-Boyd), the Johnnies' lone upperclassmen in singles competition, won his match at No. 2 with scores of 7-5, 6-7 (6-8) and 10-4.

Freshman Connor Rust (Rochester, Minn./Lourdes) won his match at No. 4 (6-3, 2-6, 10-7), while sophomore Zach Shriwise (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley West) earned a tough victory at No. 5 [7-6 (7-2), 3-6, 11-9].

Sophomore Fabricio Moncada (No. 1; Managua, Nicaragua/Lincoln International Academy), freshman Joe Laue (No. 3; St. Louis Park, Minn./Holy Angels) and sophomore Willie Paul (No. 6; Duluth, Minn./Marshall) won their matches in straight sets.

The Johnnies (8-7, 2-6 MIAC) swept all three doubles matches: No. 1 (8-4), No. 2 (8-3) and No. 3 (8-4).

SJU returns to competition on Tuesday, April 26, against St. Cloud State. The match is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the SJU Tennis Courts in Collegeville.
