The Johnnies aim for their first MIAC win of the season with their 4 p.m. match at Hamline today in St. Paul.
A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Saint John's (6-6, 0-5 MIAC) dropped its fourth straight match to Concordia-Moorhead, 7-2 this past Sunday, April 10. Junior Ian Hansen (Dawson, Minn./Dawson-Boyd) and freshman Connor Rust (Rochester, Minn./Lourdes) earned the Johnnies' lone wins at Nos. 2 and 4 singles, respectively. Sophomore Fabricio Moncada (Managua, Nicaragua/Lincoln International Academy) and senior Elliott Elm (Eagan, Minn./Holy Angels) lost each of their singles matches via super-breaker.
RECENT STRUGGLES: During their recent four-match skid, the Johnnies are 4-6 in singles matches that were decided via super-breaker and 1-2 in three additional matches in which a set has required a tie-breaker. SJU is just 2-10 in doubles competition during the recent streak.
A LOOK AT THE PIPERS: Today's match is Hamline's (6-7, 2-3 MIAC) first at “home” since March 11. The Pipers dropped each of their last two matches to St. Olaf (3-6) and St. Thomas (0-9). Bernard Mitambo is 9-3 overall, including 8-2 at No. 3 singles. The Pipers are a combined 18-7 at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles.
