COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's brought its five-match losing streak to an abrupt halt thanks to a 6-3 win over Hamline on Saturday, April 17, in Collegeville.
Freshman Fabricio Moncada (Managua, Nicaragua/Lincoln International Academy) improved his record to 7-4 (5-3 MIAC) with a straight-set 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles. He also paired up with sophomore Ian Hansen (Dawson, Minn./Dawson-Boyd) to post an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles. Hansen lost his match at No. 3 singles via the super-breaker (4-6, 6-3, 10-6). His older brother Dutch won his match at No. 2 doubles via default after winning the first set, 6-1.
Senior Luke Odegaard (Forest Lake, Minn.) and sophomore Justin LaBeaux (Sartell, Minn./Sartell-St. Stephen) won the Johnnies' other singles matches at Nos. 4 (6-1, 6-1) and 6 (4-6, 6-3, 10-6), respectively.
Junior Elliott Elm (Eagan, Minn./Holy Angels) and freshman# Zach Shriwise# (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley West) closed out the scoring with an 8-5 victory at No. 3 doubles for SJU (7-9, 2-6 MIAC).
The Johnnies stay at home to host Concordia-Moorhead this Wednesday, April 21. The match is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at the Saint John's Tennis Courts in Collegeville.
