Saint John's (0-2, 0-1 MIAC) travels throughout the state for two matches this weekend. The Johnnies travel to Duluth (Arrowhead Tennis & Athletic Club) to face St. Scholastica on Saturday, Feb. 20, followed by a trip to Minneapolis (Baseline Tennis Center) to take on St. Thomas Sunday, Feb. 21.

A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: The Johnnies began their season with two losses to nationally-ranked opponents at home last weekend. SJU dropped the season opener 7-2 to No. 27 Luther (Iowa) on Feb. 13. Junior Elliot Elm (Eagan, Minn./Holy Angels) and sophomore Justin LaBeaux (Sartell, Minn./Sartell-St. Stephen) recorded wins for the Johnnies at Nos. 4 and 6 singles, respectively. Saint John's lost three singles matches due to the super-breaker.

No. 18 Carleton then defeated SJU 8-1 on Feb. 14. The Johnnies lone victory came from freshman Fabricio Moncada (Managua, Nicaragua/Lincoln International Academy). He lost the first set 7-5 but then recorded a 6-0 shutout in the second set to earn his first collegiate victory before his opponent defaulted the super-breaker.

A LOOK AT THE SAINTS: St. Scholastica is also 0-2 overall on the year, with losses to MIAC-opponents St. Thomas (8-1) and Hamline (5-4). Jacob Engelstad is 3-1 overall, including a 2-0 record at No. 2 singles, so far this season. The Johnnies have won each of the last six meetings by a combined score of 48-6.

A LOOK AT THE TOMMIES: The Tommies are 2-0 so far, including an 8-1 win over Concordia-Moorhead in their conference opener last Saturday. UST was picked to finish third in the MIAC Preseason Coaches' poll and returns four All-MIAC honorees from 2009. Andy Michels and Tyler Rice were honored in singles and doubles, and Kevin Walker and senior Phil Hanke were recognized for doubles. Rice was 13-2 and Michels was 13-3 at second and third singles, and the pair went 12-5 at first doubles. Walker and Hanke went 11-4 at second doubles.
