A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: SJU ended its three-game losing streak by going 1-0-1 during its Long Weekend trip to New York last weekend. The Johnnies tied the City College of New York 1-1 on Friday, Oct. 9, and defeated Baruch (N.Y.) 4-2 on Sunday, Oct. 11. Sophomore Colin Frederick (Arima, Trinidad & Tobago/Queen's Royal College) scored his first career goal five minutes in the 1-1 tie. Senior Luke Nelson (Caledonia, Minn.) earned the decision in net. SJU received goals from freshman Brennen Neuburger (Millstone, N.J./Allentown), senior Paul Keane (Rochester, Minn./Mayo), junior #A.J. Sollom# (Roberts, Wis./River Falls) and junior Colin Hall (Maple Grove, Minn.) in the 4-2 win Sunday. Junior Matt Anderson (Eden Prairie, Minn.) played the second half in net and earned the win.
A LOOK AT THE ROYALS: Bethel comes into the competition with a record of 8-4-1 (4-2-1 MIAC). The Royals are led by junior Andreas Scott who has 16 points (5g, 6a). Bethel goaltender Nick Cantor has been playing well for the Royals this year. Cantor has given up 11 goals in the 13 games (.86 GAA) he has played while making 88 saves (save percentage is 88.9%). Cantor is coming off of a career high 17 save game in Bethels 1-0 win over Augsburg.
THE LAST MEETING: SJU's midfielder Brian Horst scored the game-winning goal with 1:29 remaining in the first overtime to give the Johnnies a 4-3 win over Bethel on Oct. 1, 2008. Colin Hall gave SJU a 1-0 lead just 1:30 into the match with his second goal in as many games off a pass from Austin Neuburger (Freehold, N.J./Allentown). Midfielder Levi Lowell extended the lead to 2-0 at the 35:06 mark of the first half with his first goal of the game and third of the season. Sollom assisted on the scoring play for SJU. Bethel answered, however, 2:39 later on a goal from Kirk Darling, and tied the match at 2-2 just 35 seconds after the first tally on a goal from Christopher Dirks. SJU regained the lead on Lowell's second goal of the match, five minutes into the second half, with an assist going to forward Cam Christensen. Lowell later assisted on Horst's game winner. The Royals' Randon Sommars tied the match at the 69:31 mark, 3-3. Luke Nelson made four saves to improve his record to 7-3 on the year. - Game Story
