Saint John's junior Leonard Gutierrez (Phoenix, Ariz./Brophy College Prep) intercepted three passes, all on third down in the first half, in his first collegiate start at cornerback in the Johnnies’ 49-7 win over St. Scholastica Sept. 3. He also added another pass breakup and four tackles (two solo) in the victory.
The Johnnies held the Saints to 11 yards rushing and 97 total yards on 60 offensive plays in the game.
SJU (1-0 overall), which moved up one spot to No. 8 in the latest D3football.com Top 25 poll released Sept. 4, travels to face Buena Vista (0-1 overall) for a 1 p.m. non-conference game this Saturday, Sept. 10, in Storm Lake, Iowa.
