Saint John’s sophomore heavyweight Colin Fisher (Eagan, Minn.) went 3-0 as the Johnnies posted a 2-1 record at the Chicago Duals Jan. 3.
Fisher started the day with a dramatic third-period pin over Dubuque’s Dan Howell to give SJU a 30-21 team victory. Fisher was down 7-0 before earning the exciting fall in comeback fashion.
He tallied another pin early in the second period to end the Johnnies’ 38-18 loss to No. 2 Wabash (Ind.) before posting a 2-1 decision in the final bout against Manchester (Ind.). He is now 5-0 on the season.
A backup offensive lineman on the SJU football team, Fisher’s return to the mat was delayed due to the Johnnies’ postseason run. He was the 2013 Minnesota Class AAA state champion and sat out the 2013-14 season wrestling due to injury.
The Johnnies (3-8 dual record) travel further east for the NWCA/Cliff Keen Division III National Duals this Friday and Saturday, Jan. 9-10, in Fort Wayne, Ind. SJU's first-round opponent, as well as the rest of the 24-team bracket, will be released early this week.
