Saint John's junior running back Sam Sura (South St. Paul, Minn.) needed seven rushing yards to break SJU's single-season rushing record and finished with 136 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries for his school-record seventh consecutive 100-yard rushing game (ninth of the season) in the Johnnies' 26-6 win Nov. 15 at St. Olaf in the regular-season finale.
The win clinched the first MIAC championship and NCAA Playoff berth for SJU since 2009.
He registered 90 yards on 20 carries in the first half and did not play in the fourth quarter with SJU ahead 26-6. Sura now has 1,605 yards and 16 touchdowns on the year, eclipsing the previous record of 1,475 set by Tim Schmitz in national-championship season of 1976.
No. 13 SJU (9-1, 7-1 MIAC) plays host to St. Scholastica (10-0, 9-0 UMAC) in the first round of the NCAA Division III Playoffs for a noon kickoff this Saturday, Nov. 22, in Clemens Stadium.
TICKET INFORMATION: There are no advance ticket sales for playoff games. All tickets are to be purchased at the ticket gates on game day. Gates open at 10 a.m. Ticket prices are $8 for adults, $4 for college students (with ID) and $4 for youth, ages 3-17. Young children that do not require a seat may gain free admittance. SJU season-ticket holders need to bring their playoff-ticket voucher to obtain their reserved seat, though they must purchase a ticket at the gate in order to gain access to the venue.
*thanks to the SJU Senate, the first 500 CSB/SJU students will gain free admittance on Saturday. Students need to have their ID and sign in at either of the three entrances to the stadium.
