Saint John's junior Nick Welshons (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) broke the SJU indoor record with a height of 2.07 meters in the high jump as SJU took first out of five MIAC teams on Feb. 22 in Collegeville.

The mark is the MIAC's best so far this season and ties him for seventh in all of NCAA Division III.

Welshons finished the outdoor season tied for 19th nationally with a height of 2.03 meters and was the first student-athlete to miss the cut for nationals last spring.

The Johnnies travel to St. Olaf for a 1 p.m. "last-chance" qualifier on Friday, Feb. 28, in Northfield, before returning home to host the 2014 MIAC Indoor Championships March 7-8.
