A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Saint John's (11-9, 7-4 MIAC) made 60.6 percent (20-for-33) of its shots in the first half en route to a 102-69 win at St. Scholastica on Saturday (Jan. 31) in Duluth. The Johnnies finished at 56.2 percent (41-for-73) for the game and outrebounded St. Scholastica by a 43-24 margin, including 13-4 on the offensive glass. The visitors used the advantage for 17 second-chance points and dominated the paint with a 52-28 scoring differential. The Saints' last lead of the game – 7-6 – came 2:31 into the contest. SJU, however, responded with a 17-2 run over the next 4:40 and led by double digits for the remainder of the game.
Sophomore guard
Justin Johnson (Prior Lake, Minn./DeLaSalle) led six Johnnies in double figures with 16 points and two steals in 16 minutes off the bench. SJU totaled a 48-8 scoring advantage in bench points.

Liam Farniok (Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest) followed with 14 points and was one of three Johnnies – joining junior wing
Jamison Lien (Prior Lake, Minn.) and freshman guard

Jayden Brown scored a game-high 17 points for CSS, which finished at 45 percent (27-for-60) for the game.
FROSH LEADER: Podany shot 54.2 percent (13-for-24) from the field, including an even 50 percent (7-for-14) from three-point range, and averaged 17.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists as SJU went 1-1 last week. He currently leads the MIAC, among freshmen, in three-point shooting (.438/28-for-64) and is second in scoring (13.6 ppg.) in conference play.

A LOOK AT THE GUSTIES: Gustavus Adolphus (19-1, 11-0 MIAC) brings a 17-game win streak to Collegeville Wednesday with its last loss occurring Nov. 20 (62-60 to Whitworth, Wash.). The Gusties remained undefeated in MIAC play with their 70-60 home win over Concordia on Saturday (Jan. 31). The two teams recorded similar shooting percentages – 40 percent (24-for-60) for Concordia and 35.8 percent (24-or-67) for GAC – but the home team shot 37.5 percent (12-for-32) from behind the arc and scored 19 points off 19 Cobber turnovers. Junior (6-foot-1) guard Jake Schmitt led Gustavus with 22 points thanks to a 6-for-11 showing from three-point, while sophomore (6-foot-5) forward Andrew Quam went 4-for-7 from long range for 16 points. Junior (6-foot-1) guard Myles Barnette finished with 14 points, seven rebounds and six assists. He is currently fifth in the MIAC in scoring (18.5 ppg.) in conference play (18.5 ppg).
EARLIER THIS SEASON: Gustavus shot 64.3 percent (18-for-28) from the field, including an 8-for-12 showing from three-point range, in the second half to pull away for a 95-80 win over Saint John's earlier this season on Dec. 10 in St. Peter. SJU trailed by three (74-71) with 7:45 left, but GAC went on a 16-6 run over the next 5:37 to seal the victory.
The home team finished at 61.7 percent (37-for-60) from the floor and an even 50 percent (13-for-26) from beyond the arc. The Johnnies, meanwhile, shot 54.4 percent (31-for-57) overall and matched the Gusties' 13 treys at 43.3 percent (13-for-30), but GAC scored 23 points off 15 SJU turnovers.
Podany led four Johnnies in double figures with a career-high 27 points on a 10-for-16 night from the field, including a 6-for-9 performance from long range. He also grabbed six rebounds to go with two assists and two steals.
Senior guard
Kyle Johnson (Prior Lake, Minn./DeLaSalle) also registered a career high in points – 24 – thanks to a 6-for-11 showing from three-point (8-for-14 overall).
Sophomore post
Charlie Theis (Cottage Grove, Minn./East Ridge) followed with 11 points and seven rebounds, while Tschetter added 10 points and eight boards (five on the offensive glass).
Schmitt led the Gusties with 24 points and Barnette totaled 20 with five steals.
Gustavus closed the first half with an 18-9 run to take a 44-39 lead into the break after SJU led by as much as eight halfway through the opening stanza.
SERIES HISTORY: SJU is 70-61 against Gustavus since the 1964-65 season, including a 44-24 record in Collegeville. The Gusties have won each of the last two meetings overall (both in St. Peter) but SJU owns a nine-game win streak in Sexton Arena (10 of the last 11).
