Three Johnnies Sit Atop MIAC Heptathlon Leaderboard

Day 1 Results 

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – A trio of Saint John's student-athletes are 1-2-3 in the 18-man MIAC heptathlon following the first four events held Thursday, Feb. 26, at Carleton. 

Sophomore Bailey Evans (Breckenridge, Minn.) won all four events to take a steady hold of lead with 2,855 points. He is 299 points ahead of freshman Josh Pretasky (Chanhassen, Minn./Minnetonka) in second (2,556), who finished in the top four of his last three events to move up the leaderboard. Junior Noah Besemann (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale) is in third with 2,542 points and three top-five finishes.

Evans kicked the day off with his first-place finish in the 55-meter. He crossed the line in 6.57, followed by Besemann in eighth (6.87) and Pretasky in 11th (6.97). In all, a runner from SJU was first or second in every heat of the event. 

Evans, Besemann and Pretasky had the three best marks to start the long jump, and Evans bettered his lead on his third attempt with leap of 6.38 meters for the eventual crown. Pretasky retook second place on his final attempt (6.32 meters) and Besemann finished fifth with a career-best second jump of 6.07 meters. 

SJU went 1-2-3 in the shot put as Evans claimed his third title of day with a heave of 13.48 meters. Besemann was second with a 12.54-meter throw, followed by Pretasky (12.00 meters).

Evans completed the day-one sweep with a clearance of 1.80 meters in the high jump. Petrasky was fourth, hitting the 1.74 mark on his sixth jump, followed by Besemann in sixth (1.71 meters).

The heptathlon's final three events begin with the 55-meter hurdles at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 27, followed by the pole vault (11 a.m.) and 1,000 meters (2:30 p.m.).

The first full day of the 2026 MIAC Indoor Championships start with field events at 4 p.m. (track competition at 4:30 p.m.).
