Results
COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's track and field won its seven-team CSB/SJU Valentine's Day Open on Saturday, Feb. 14, in the Donald McNeely Spectrum.
SJU won seven events and totaled 31 top-five finishes for 241 points, followed by Division II Southwest Minnesota State (162) and Concordia-Moorhead (143.5). The Johnnies did not have a participant in the 800 or 3,000 meters.
Senior
Jacob Malecha (Lonsdale, Minn./New Prague) led four-consecutive Johnnies in the 5,000 meters to win the race with a time of 15:46.07. Junior
Vincent Kaluza (Cold Spring, Minn./Rocori) was second (16:07.08), freshman
John Steines (St. Paul, Minn./DeLaSalle) took third (16:35.30) and freshman
Raegan Lopez (Lakeville, Minn./North) was fourth (16:37.06).
Senior
Owen Montreuil (Jordan, Minn.) won the 600 meters in 1:22.12, while sophomore
Zander Olmschenk (Sauk Centre, Minn.) was third (1:26.86) and senior
Aiden Langheim (Jordan, Minn.) claimed fourth (1:27.55).
Junior
Cooper Smith (Alvarado, Minn./East Grand Forks) took first in the 400-meter dash with a personal-best time of 50.71 seconds and junior
Wyatt Witschen (Monticello, Minn.) followed in third (51.42).
The Johnnies recorded the top-three times in the 1,000 meters, led by junior
Cole Stencel (Mapleton, Minn./Maple River) in 2:28.88. Senior
Nick St. Peter (Maple Grove, Minn.) was next in second (2:32.18) and junior
Lars Molenkamp (Almere, Netherlands/Oostvaarders College) was third (2:33.57).
Junior
Bashir Amoud (St. Paul, Minn./Harding) crossed the finish line first in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.51 seconds and freshman
Trae Headlee (Billings, Mont./Skyview) claimed third (8.63).
Junior
Kieran Murnan (Lakeville, Minn./Holy Angels) won the 200-meter dash in 22.46 seconds and led three-straight Johnnies with a second-place finish of 6.95 seconds in the 60-meter dash. Sophomore
Hunter Mohr (Alexandria, Minn.) and freshman
Derek Guth (St. Peter, Minn.) were third (23.07) and fourth (23.36) in the 200-meter dash, while freshman
Aiden Jones (Pierz, Minn.) and senior
Brennan Blake (Minneapolis, Minn./Totino-Grace) took third (6.99) and fourth (7.07) in the 60-meter dash.
SJU's 4x200-meter relay (Jones, White, Brambach, Murnan) won with a time of 1:29.89 and the 4x400-meter relay team (Witschen, Montreuil, St. Peter, Smith) was second (3:26.84) by 0:00.20.
Junior
Peyton Martinek (Coon Rapids, Minn.) finished second overall, first among Division III runners, in the mile run (4:39.59), and classmate
Bangaly Kaba (St. Cloud, Minn./Apollo) was third overall, first among Division III competitors, in the triple jump (13.35 meters).
Sophomore
Grady Minnerath (Cold Spring, Minn./Rocori) placed second in the shot put (15.87 meters) and third in the weight throw (14.93 meters). Both marks were PR's.
Sophomore
Bailey Evans (Breckenridge, Minn.) claimed third in the high jump (1.88 meters), while freshman
Austin Mohr (Alexandria, Minn.) and senior
Josh Johnston (Cold Spring, Minn./Rocori) were fourth and fifth with a height of 4.19 meters in the pole vault. Sophomore
Anthony Sletta (St. James, Minn.) was SJU's top long jumper in fifth (6.30 meters).
SJU is scheduled to split for two meets on Friday, Feb. 20: 2 p.m. at at Division I Minnesota's Snowshoe Open in Minneapolis and 3 p.m. at Division II MSU-Mankato's Maverick Open.
