Saint John's wrestling competes at the NCAA Regional this Friday (10 a.m.) and Saturday (10 a.m.), Feb. 27-28, at Wisconsin-Eau Claire's McPhee Gymnasium in Eau Claire, Wis. - Live Results
THE SCHEDULE: Friday's competition begins at 10 a.m. and goes through the championship quarterfinals and consolation quarterfinals. The regional resumes at 10 a.m. Saturday and will award first-through-sixth in each weight class.
HOW TO GET TO NATIONALS: The top-three finishers in each of the regional's 10 weight classes advance to the 2026 NCAA Division III Championships scheduled for March 13-14 at the Alliant Energy Powerhouse in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Saint John's junior wrestlers Connor Krueger (Superior, Wis.) and Aidan Wayne (Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo) were crowned champions and two others finished in the top five at Concordia's Cobber Last Shot Invitational back on Feb. 7 in Moorhead.
Krueger went 3-0 to win the 133-pound bracket and improve to 18-1 this season. He started his day with a pair of bonus-point victories – a 17-1 technical fall and 10-2 major decision – and edged Concordia's Kie Anderson 3-2 for the title. Krueger recorded a second-period takedown, surrendered an escape and a penalty for stalling with 13 seconds left in the match.
Wayne reached 30 wins (30-4 record) with a 3-0 record to take the title at 197 pounds. He registered his team-leading 16th and 17th pins of the season and posted a 7-3 decision over Concordia's William Freking in the championship match.
Freshman Dallas Sibbet (Big Lake, Minn.) followed Krueger and Wayne to the championship bout at 141 pounds with two pins. The Cobbers' Jack Major handed him a pin of his own, however, for the title and is now 10-6.
Sophomore Dominic Smith (Maple Grove, Minn./St. Michael's, N.M.) claimed fifth place with a 4-2 record at 149 pounds and is now 21-15 on the year.
REGIONAL RANKINGS: Four Johnnies were listed in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Region 7 rankings posted last week (Feb. 20): Krueger, No. 1 at 133; Holmquist, No. 4 at 125; Wayne, No. 4 at 197; and Smith, No. 8 at 149.
WHO WILL BE THERE: In addition to SJU and the host Blugolds, the NCAA Region VII's 16-team field consists of Augsburg, Augustana (Ill.), Aurora (Ill.), Carthage (Wis.), Concordia-Moorhead, Concordia (Wis.), Lakeland (Wis.), Linfield (Ore.), the Milwaukee School of Engineering (Wis.), Pacific (Ore.), Wisconsin-La Crosse, Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Wisconsin-Platteville and Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

LAST YEAR'S REGIONAL: SJU finished 10th out of 16 teams and five Johnnies placed at last year's NCAA Regional held Feb. 28-March 1 (2025) at Augsburg.
Holmquist and Krueger just missed a trip to the NCAA Division III Championships with fourth-place finishes at their respective weights. Holmquist continued his success through the 125-pound consolation bracket with a pair of bonus-point wins – a pin of Wisconsin-Platteville's Chris Karbash in 1:30 and a 17-0 technical fall over the Milwaukee School of Engineering's (Wis.) Jesse Johnson – but suffered a second-period fall to then-10th-ranked Wyatt Kaczrowski of Augsburg for fourth place. He ended his first collegiate season with a 15-8 record.
Krueger defeated Concordia-Moorhead's Kie Anderson with a 4-1 decision and pinned Platteville's Brady Grennan in 1:09 but dropped the third-place match at 133 pounds with a 5-1 score to Wisconsin-La Crosse's Wyatt Magolski. Magolski was Krueger's lone loss, 7-3, on his second match of Day 1. Krueger ended the season with a 9-6 record.
Wayne was the lone Johnnie to win his final match of the season at heavyweight. He started the day with a 10-6 loss to Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Sloan Welch but avenged the previous day's 4-1 loss to Carthage's (Wis.) Mason Kochersperger with a 4-1 win of his own thanks to a last-second takedown for seventh place. Wayne finished with a team-leading 23-7 record.
D.J. Myles '25 and Logan Thorsten '25 finished 2-3 for eighth place in the respective brackets. Myles started his day at 197 pounds with a major decision loss to Wisconsin-Stevens Point's Logan Neitzel and fell to Platteville's Kain Killmer via technical fall for eighth place and end the season with a 9-9 record. Thorsten, meanwhile, suffered a fall to Toren Vandenbush of the Milwaukee School of Engineering (Wis.) at 165 pounds and claimed eighth with a 6-2 loss to Carthage's Christian Gilbert. Thorsten finished with a 10-5 record.
