A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Saint John's (13-6-4, 8-3-3 MIAC) earned its second-straight series sweep of Augsburg last weekend.
at Saint John's 5, Augsburg 3 (Feb. 12)
SJU scored a goal or more in each period, including three in the third, to win the series opener over Augsburg 5-3 last Thursday at the HBNHC. The two teams combined for five goals in the third period, of which only one was an even-strength tally. SJU started the third with a 2-1 lead and was awarded its first power play of the game 36 seconds in, but the Auggies tied the game with a shorthanded goal from Peyton Hanson 14 seconds later. The lead swung back into the Johnnies' favor when junior forward
Jackson Borst (Edina, Minn.) found the back of the net during the same man advantage at the 2:07 mark.
Senior defenseman
Michael Spinner (Prior Lake, Minn.) gave the home team a two-goal cushion with his third goal of the season with 7:20 elapsed in the third. With the goaltender pulled, Landon Parker cut Augsburg's deficit to 4-3 with an extra-attacker goal with 3:04 remaining.
Senior captain
Mason Campbell (Rosemount, Minn.) ended the scoring with an empty-net goal on a long shot from his own defensive end just before time expired.
Freshman forward
Jordan Larkee (St. Paul, Minn.) gave the Johnnies a 1-0 lead with 3:24 left in the first period. Larkee put away a nifty passing play with his linemates junior forward
Cam Boche (Lakeville, Minn.) and freshman forward
Carter Krenke (Bloomington, Minn.) on the zone entry.
Augsburg's Duke Kiffin tied it 58 seconds later with a shot from the slot that beat senior goaltender
Jon Howe (Chanhassen, Minn.) over the shoulder.
Junior forward
Logan Lyke (Medina, Minn.) scored his team-leading 11th goal of the season 18 seconds into the second period, gathering a rebound from junior defenseman
Sam Berry's (St. Louis Park, Minn.) shot from the point.
Howe finished with 30 saves as Augsburg finished with a slight 33-31 edge in shots.
Saint John's 6, at Augsburg 1 (Feb. 13)
Ten Johnnies recorded a point or more as SJU out-shot Augsburg by a 40-27 margin and won 43 of the 61 faceoffs (70.5 percent). Krenke started the game's scoring with his 10th goal of the season, on a breakaway, with 3:37 left in the first period. Krenke sped up the boards and stickhandled through the stick of the only remaining Auggie defender. He capped his rush with a quick move and shot to his forehand.
Freshman forward
Tyler Smith (Carver, Minn.) made it 2-0 with his first collegiate goal just eight seconds into the second period. Lyke won the opening draw to Borst, who walked it into the zone and dropped a pass back for Smith. Smith rifled his first collegiate tally from the outside of the circle.
Ryan Comishock cut the Auggies' deficit in half (2-1) with what proved to be the home team's lone goal of the night, on the power play, 6:47 into the second period.
Junior forward
Jackson Bisson (Edina, Minn.) lit the lamp with a power-play goal of his own, his eighth tally of the season and seventh point (4g/3a) on the man advantage this season, to cap the second period. After a quick passing play between Lyke and junior forward
Jack Wandmacher (St. Louis Park, Minn.), Bisson faked a pass, moved into position again, and found the back of the net.
Senior defenseman
Conner Couet (St. Michael, Minn.) scored the Johnnies' second breakaway goal of the game 4:48 into the third period. Couet stole the puck from an Auggie attacker as he pushed him out of the zone. He tripped up the last defender remaining and ripped his second goal of the season and fifth as a Johnnie into the top right corner.
Smith scored his second goal of the game at the 7:05 mark of the third, hitting a one-timer off a feed from Borst on the 2-on-1 rush down the ice.
Junior forward
Chris Kernan (Maple Grove, Minn.), the reigning MIAC Men's Hockey Offensive Player of the Week at the time, scored his seventh goal of the season with 5:30 remaining. Kernan split the defense and found the top corner after senior defender
Zach Enebak (Lakeville, Minn.) flipped the puck to Kernan from the SJU goal line.
Howe made 26 saves to improve to 12-5-4 this season.
The six goals scored are the most for the Johnnies – at Augsburg – since Jan. 26, 2008 (a 6-0 win). SJU has now outscored the Auggies 23-7 over the last four meetings overall.
ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Howe and Borst were named the MIAC Men's Hockey Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, respectively, on Monday (Feb. 16). The weekly honor is the third of the season for Howe, who went 2-0 with a 2.01 GAA and a .933 save percentage (56 saves) in SJU's sweep of Augsburg. He currently leads the MIAC with a 2.38 GAA, among goalies with 600 minutes or more, and is second with a .928 save percentage, among those with 300 saves or more in conference play.
Borst, meanwhile, totaled four points (1g/3a) and a plus/minus rating of +4 in the series sweep. He scored SJU's third goal and assisted its second in Thursday's 5-3 series-opening victory. Borst assisted two more in the Johnnies' 6-1 win at Augsburg the following night, including the game-winner. He is currently riding a four-game point streak with six (1g/5a) during the stretch.
HELLO MIAC PLAYOFFS: SJU clinched its eighth MIAC Playoff appearance in the last 10 seasons with last weekend's sweep of Augsburg. The berth is the Johnnies' 26th overall (established for the 1985-86 season).

Concordia 4, at Saint John's 2 (Feb. 20, 2025)
Hunter Bjorge snapped home a shot near the right faceoff circle to give Concordia a 1-0 lead 1:52 into the second period. Kernan tied the game for SJU with his 10th goal of the season – a shot off his own rebound – 1:43 later.
The Cobbers, however, scored a pair of goals 1:30 apart less than three minutes later to gain a 3-1 advantage. Ben Luedtke took advantage of an error by Howe for an unassisted tally at the 6:17 mark and Joe Harguindeguy hammered home his own rebounded 1:30 later. Howe came out to play the puck before a hard-charging Luedtke could reach it, but his attempt to clear went to Luedtke's stick, and the CC junior side-stepped the sprawled goaltender for an easy goal.
Troy Dahlheimer extended the lead to 4-1 on a deep shot in the slot with 5:16 remaining in the game and Lyke closed the scoring with a shorthanded goal, the Johnnies' second in as many games, 47 seconds later.
Howe made 36 saves in the loss as CC posted a 40-36 edge in shots. SJU denied the Cobbers' three power-play chances but went 0-for-4 on the man advantage.
Saint John's 4, at Concordia 2 (Feb. 22, 2025)
SJU clinched the No. 4 seed in last year's five-team MIAC Playoffs with a 4-2 win in Moorhead. The Johnnies broke a 2-2 tie with two goals in the third period to earn the victory - the 200th of head coach
Doug Schueller's career.
Campbell's second goal of the game, with 8:54 remaining in regulation, proved to be the game-winning tally. Lyke sealed the victory with an empty-net goal, his sixth tally of the season, with 10 seconds left.
Campbell gave SJU an early 1-0 lead on a shot from the right faceoff circle 5:40 into the game. The Cobbers, however, tied the game on a goal from Tal Halliday off a faceoff win as the horn sounded to end the first period.
Boche gave the lead back to the Johnnies with a power-play goal 4:16 into the second period, but CC again answered late in the period on a tally from Blake Johnson with 3:59 left.
Bailey Huber '25 made 22 saves to even his season record at 6-6 and with his 20th career win.
Concordia 4, Saint John's 3 at the MAC (MIAC Quarterfinal; Feb. 26, 2025)
Concordia built a 3-0 lead and held on to top Saint John's 4-3 in last year's MIAC quarterfinal. Joe Harguindeguy gave CC a 1-0 lead on a shot from the right faceoff circle 6:55 into the game and Blaise Miller made it a two-goal game at the 14:06 mark when his hard-charging attempt trickled between the leg pads of Huber. Tucker Skime tallied the Cobbers' first of two power-play goals on the night 3:01 into the second period for a 3-0 lead.
Boche erased the shutout for SJU when he put away a rebound from Campbell's shot on goal 1:11 after Skime and cut the deficit to 3-2 with his ninth goal of the season, during a 5-on-3 power play, at the 11:25 mark of the second.
Isaac Henkemeyer-Howe answered, however, with what proved to be the game-winning goal on the power play with only 4.2 seconds left in the frame. CC entered the postseason at 14.3 percent (13-for-91) on the man advantage and ended the night 2-for-7 against SJU's penalty kill – ranked second in NCAA Division III – at 90.4 percent (67-for-73).

Cody Carlson '25 with 5:46 left in regulation.
