COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The Saint John's University athletic department's seventh annual Go Johnnies Challenge - a 24-hour, online giving campaign - is set for Tuesday, Sept. 16.
The steadfast goal of the Go Johnnies Challenge is 650 donors for the university's 650-plus varsity and club student-athletes. Monetary gifts can be designated toward specific sport programs and the general athletic department, as well as ROTC, sports medicine, strength and conditioning and the J-Club.
"Every gift, of every size, makes a difference as 100 percent of the dollars raised go directly to the sport," interim director of athletics
Dan O'Brien said. "Through my first months, I've seen firsthand the generosity of our alumni, friends and families. We need your continued support to help us raise the bar for our Saint John's student-athletes."
Friends of Johnnie Athletics are encouraged to donate to the sport/s of their choosing and/or challenge their friends and former teammates with a matching gift (per donor, preferably).
The 2024 Go Johnnies Challenge was held last September and raised $239,834 with 916 donors.
The inaugural campaign garnered 1,110 donors in 2019. Although the 2020 Go Johnnies Challenge was postponed that April due to the COVID-19 pandemic, 228 generous donors contributed. The rescheduled Go Johnnies Challenge produced 1,066 donors in September 2020 and the 2021 event raised over $221,000 with 855 donors. The 2022 event raised $256,257 – the second-highest dollar amount ever – with 915 donors and 852 donors contributed $242,412 in 2023.
