Hole-by-Hole Scoring
MONTICELLO, Minn. – No. 25 Saint John's golf finished second, two shots from Gustavus Adolphus, out of 15 teams at its spring invitational on Sunday, April 27, at Monticello C.C. (par 71).
Three Gusties carded a 3-under par 68 each as GAC fired a 278 (-6) Sunday to erase SJU's five-shot lead and win the tournament by two shots with a two-round total of 574 (+2). The Johnnies posted a 1-over par 285 Sunday to finish with a 576 (+4), followed by Bethel (+20, 592) and Carleton (+30, 602). SJU led the tournament with a combined -14 on the par-5 holes and 34 birdies.
Four of the five Johnnies finished in the top 10, led by junior
Tim Fultz (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area) with his first collegiate medalist honor. He claimed first in the 85-man field with a two-day score of 141 (-2) and also led the tournament with a -6 on the par 5's.
Senior
Andrew Boemer (Eagan, Minn./St. Thomas Academy) tied for sixth, his fifth top-10 finish of the season, with a 144 (+1). Freshman
Gavin Grahek (Maple Grove, Minn.) led the Johnnies Sunday with a season-low 69 (-2), thanks to an eagle on the par-4 No. 16 (355 yards), and placed eighth with a 145 (+2).
Junior
Ethan Kress (Woodbury, Minn.) totaled a team-best six birdies Sunday and tied with senior
Will Gruidl (Edina, Minn./Minnehaha Academy), who was playing as an individual, for ninth with a 146 (+3). Gruidl tied for the tournament lead with 10 birdies.
Junior
Gus Briguet (Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge) rounded out the Johnnies' five in a tie for 26th (+10, 153).
SJU Blue finished sixth with a 607 (+35) and was led by sophomore
Nate Appelhof (Blaine, Minn./Totino-Grace) and freshman
Connor O'Hara (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South), who both tied for 18th (+8, 151). O'Hara tied for second in the tourney with 25 pars.
SJU closes its regular-season schedule with a dual against Carleton at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at Edinburgh G.C. (par 72) in Brooklyn Park.
