Johnnies Clinch MIAC Playoff Berth With 4-2 Road Win

Box Score

MOORHEAD, Minn. – Saint John's hockey clinched the No. 4 seed in the upcoming five-team MIAC Playoffs with a 4-2 win at Concordia-Moorhead on Saturday, Feb. 22.

The Johnnies (11-13-1, 8-7-1 MIAC) broke a 2-2 tie with two goals in the third period to earn the victory - the 200th of head coach Doug Schueller's career - and secure their seventh postseason appearance in the last nine seasons (25th overall since the playoffs were established for the 1985-86 season).

SJU hosts Concordia in the MIAC quarterfinal at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, at the Municipal Athletic Complex (MAC) in St. Cloud.

Junior defenseman Mason Campbell's (Rosemount, Minn.) second goal of the game, with 8:54 remaining in regulation, proved to be the game-winning tally.

Sophomore forward Logan Lyke (Medina, Minn.) sealed the victory with an empty-net goal, his sixth tally of the season, with 10 seconds left.

Campbell gave SJU an early 1-0 lead on a shot from the right faceoff circle 5:40 into the game. The Cobbers (11-11-3, 7-6-3 MIAC), however, tied the game on a goal from Tal Halliday off a faceoff win as the horn sounded to end the first period.

Sophomore forward Cam Boche (Lakeville, Minn.) gave the lead back to the Johnnies with a power-play goal 4:16 into the second period, but CC again answered late in the period on a tally from Blake Johnson with 3:59 left.

Senior goaltender Bailey Huber (Mahtomedi, Minn.) made 22 saves to even his season record at 6-6 and with his 20th career win.
