Slavik Wins Three Events in Dual Loss at UW-La Crosse

LA CROSSE, Wis. – Saint John's swimming and diving won five events in a 182-116 loss at Wisconsin-La Crosse on Saturday, Nov. 8. 

Senior Brayden Slavik (Green Isle, Minn./Chaska) led the Johnnies with three individual wins, including a 35-year-old, pool-record time of 16:14.22 in the 1,650-yard freestyle. He also took first in the 400-yard individual medley (4:13.49) and 500-yard freestyle (4:54.21).

Freshman Vincent Schulze (Eden Prairie, Minn.), meanwhile, collected three top-three finishes. He was victorious in the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.39) and claimed second in the 100-yard freestyle (49.27) and third in the 50-yard freestyle (22.30).

Junior Cody Watts (St. Cloud, Minn./Tech) won the 1-meter dive (279.65) and finished second on the 3-meter board (200.65), just ahead of sophomore Henry Hilgendorf (Owatonna, Minn.) in third (200.25). 

Senior Clay Megaw (Monticello, Minn.) placed second in both the 100- (1:01.70) and 200-yard (2:18.66) breaststrokes, while junior Trevor Barton (Buffalo, Minn.) runner-up to Slavik in the 500- (5:08.55) and 1,650-yard (17:45.46) freestyles.

Senior Carsten Reuter (St. Cloud, Minn./Tech) claimed second in the 50-yard freestyle (22.00) and freshman Braydon Ohrtman (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) was second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.83) and third in the 100-yard freestyle (50.05). Senior Andrew Roggeman (St. Cloud, Minn./Tech) touched the wall third in the 100-yard backstroke (59.25).

SJU's 200-yard freestyle relay (Reuter, Lammers, Schulze, Slavik) took second (1:29.29) and the 400-yard medley (Roggeman, Megaw, Lammers, Reuter) was third (3:45.61).

The Johnnies visit Division II St. Cloud State for a 11 a.m. dual meet next Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Halenbeck Hall Pool.
