Johnnie Hockey Ends Regular Season With Road Loss

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Saint John's hockey ended its regular-season schedule with a 7-1 loss at St. Olaf on Friday, Feb. 9.

Camden Benson gave St. Olaf (10-10-3, 6-6-2 MIAC) a 1-0 lead 5:10 into the game and added two more, 1:23 apart, in the second period.  

Junior forward Garrett Smith (Eden Prairie, Minn.) put SJU (9-12-4, 6-9-1 MIAC) on the scoreboard with his fourth goal of the season and fifth of his career with 4:16 left in the second period, but the Oles sandwiched the second intermission with a pair of goals. Parker Casey lit the lamp with 54 seconds left in the second period and Connor Kalthoff made it 5-1 just nine seconds into the third.

Tony Leahy scored an empty-net goal with 8:38 remaining in regulation and Cody Sherman ended the game's scoring with a power-play goal 21 seconds later.

Junior goaltender Bailey Huber (Mahtomedi, Minn.) made 21 saves in the loss as STO recorded a 28-24 advantage in shots. 

The Johnnies await their postseason fate following their bye next weekend as the rest of the MIAC ends the regular-season schedule.
