No. 11 SJU Posts a 279 (-9), Wins Gustavus Dual by 17 Shots

MAPLE PLAIN, Minn. – No. 11 Saint John's golf carded a 9-under par 279 to win a two-day dual over Gustavus Adolphus by 17 shots - 580-597 - on Sunday, Sept. 3, at Pioneer Creek G.C. (par 72).

SJU Blue tied Gustavus' varsity at 597 (+21) and the Gusties' second team was fourth at 609 (+33).

Senior Mark Longhenry (Bloomington, Minn./Holy Angels) and sophomore Ethan Kress (Woodbury, Minn.) tied with GAC's Teddy Kaste for medalist honors with a 142 (-2). Longhenry fired a career-best, 4-under par 68 on Sunday to lead SJU's varsity, which boasted all four countable scores below par on the afternoon.

Senior Sam Berger (Waconia, Minn.) and junior Andrew Boemer (Eagan, Minn./St. Thomas Academy) followed Longhenry with a 70 (-2) each, while senior Blake Schuler (Waconia, Minn.) added a 71 (-1). Boemer tied for fourth out of the 24 golfers with a 147 (+3) and Berger claimed seventh (+3, 147). Senior Nate Loxtercamp (Richmond, Minn./Melrose Area) matched yesterday's 74 (+2) to tie for eighth at 148 and Schuler tied for 10th (+6, 150).

Three Johnnies finished in the top eight for SJU Blue. In addition to Kress, junior Cole Proctor (Brainerd, Minn.) tied Berger for fourth and sophomore Gus Briguet (Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge) tied Loxtercamp for eighth.
 
The Johnnies return to competition in two weeks by hosting its annual fall invitational on Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 16-17. The first round is scheduled to be held Saturday at St. Cloud C.C. and Sunday at Blackberry G.C. in Sartell.
