NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Saint John's track and field won two events and totaled 14 top-five finishes on Saturday, May 6, at St. Olaf's Ole Open – the last opportunity for student-athletes to qualify for next weekend's MIAC Outdoor Championships – in Northfield.
The Johnnies did not have a competitor in the high jump, long jump, pole vault, triple jump, 110-meter hurdles, 3,000 meters, 3,000-meter steeplechase or the relays (4x100 and 4x400).
Sophomore
Alex Seiler (Albany, Minn.) won the high jump with a season-best height of 1.83 meters and senior
Nathan Clausing (Big Lake, Minn.) took first in the 1,500 meters with a season-best time of 3:58.02.
Junior
Logan Hennen (Prior Lake, Minn.) placed second (51.34 meters) and freshman
Mitchell Degen (Brainerd, Minn.) was fourth (45.41 meters) in the javelin, while senior
Pierre Deutschlander (Maple Grove, Minn.) claimed second (1:01.76) in the 400-meter hurdles.
Two Johnnies – freshman
Owen Montreuil (Jordan, Minn.) in third (1:57.85) and senior
Alexei Hensel (Buffalo, Minn.) in fifth (1:58.76) – finished in the 800 meters' top five and two others did the same in the 200-meter dash: freshman
John Maile (Eden Valley, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins) in fourth (23.30) and sophomore
Henry Truebenbach (Cambridge, Minn./Milaca) in fifth (23.33).
In the 100-meter dash, freshman
Aidan Morey (Omaha, Neb./Creighton Prep) crossed the finish line third (11.40) and senior
Josh Sletta (Madelia, Minn.) was fifth (11.55).
Freshman
Tom Kuriscak (Stillwater, Minn./St. Paul Academy) led the Johnnies' throwers with a third-place finish (41.76 meters) in the hammer and junior
Keenan Turqueza (Ewa Beach, Hawaii/Radford) was fifth (33.14 meters). Junior
Kaleb Dewall (Red Wing, Minn.) took fifth in the shot put 12.81 meters.
The Johnnies aim to defend last season's conference title at the 2023 MIAC Outdoor Championships next Friday-Saturday, May 12-13, on the Bethel campus in Arden Hills.
