MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Saint John's track and field won six events and finished second in three others at Division I Minnesota's Running on Hope Invitational on Wednesday, April 26.
Senior sprinter
Kevin Arthur (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park) recorded a pair of season-best times, including a personal-best of 21.15 seconds to win the 200-meter dash. The time broke his own SJU record and is good for seventh-best in NCAA Division III this spring. He finished second in the 100-meter dash (10.575), by 0.004 of a second to Division II MSU-Mankato's Steven Marks, but registered a season-best time of 10.56 seconds in the prelim.
Senior
Brady Labine (Detroit Lakes, Minn.) took first in the 400-meter hurdles (54.91) and junior
Carter Grove (Osakis, Minn.) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a personal-best of 9:19.24. Sophomore
Aiden Chalmers (Chaska, Minn./Minnetonka) claimed first in the 5,000 meters (15:46.87) and SJU's 4x100-meter relay (
Emanuel Popoca, Arthur, Labine,
Caden Wheeler) clocked Division III's 20th-best time - 41.24 seconds – for first place.
Junior
Joe Charbonneau (New Richmond, Wis.) and freshman
Kole Guth (St. Peter, Minn.) went 1 (4.65 meters)-2 (4.50 meters) in the pole vault, and junior
Dan Eickhoff (St. Cloud, Minn./Cathedral) followed in fourth (4.30 meters).
Senior
Brett Hague (Brainerd, Minn.) took second in the javelin with a season-best distance of 63.23 meters, which is good for eighth in Division III. Junior
Logan Hennen (Prior Lake, Minn.) was behind Hague in fourth (51.96 meters). Senior
Elijah Wade (Waco, Texas/Vanguard College Prep) and sophomore
Zach Schaffer (Chaska, Minn.) finished second in the triple jump (13.57 meters) and long jump (6.83 meters), respectively.
Gustavus Adolphus' Gustie Twilight
A number of SJU's throwers competed tonight at the Gustie Twilight in St. Peter. Senior
Jaeden Frost (Omro, Wis.) led the NCAA Division III participants in the discus (third overall) with a mark of 44.25 meters and sophomore
Joe Mensen (Hudson, Wis./Hill-Murray) followed in second (sixth overall) at 38.77 meters. Frost did the same in the shot put, where he was fourth overall at 14.32 meters.
The Johnnies travel to St. Thomas for the Joe Sweeney Invitational on Wednesday, May 3, and will call Northfield home for a pair of competitions, the MIAC Decathlon (Thursday-Friday, May 4-5) at Carleton and St. Olaf Invitational (Saturday, May 6), next week.
