Hole-by-Hole Scoring
LE SUEUR, Minn. – No. 13 Saint John's golf finished second, by one shot, out of 19 teams at Gustavus Adolphus' Bobby Krig Invitational on Sunday, April 23, at Le Sueur C.C. (par 70).
Wisconsin-Eau Claire won the two-round tournament with a 593 (+29), followed by SJU (+30, 594), St. Olaf (+39, 603), the host Gusties (+41, 605) and Bethel (+45, 609). SJU Blue and SJU White finished 10th (+61, 625) and 11th (+62, 626), respectively.
The Johnnies led the tournament on par-3 (+11) and par-5 (-4) holes, but lost 13 shots (+21 to +34) to the Blugolds on the par-4's.
Junior
Sam Berger (Waconia, Minn.) tied for second out of 119 golfers with a two-day total of 144 (+3) to lead the 15 Johnnies in the tournament. He birdied Sunday's first hole and continued with 15 pars and two bogeys to finish with a 71 (+1).
Three teammates – senior
Thomas Gutzmer (Jordan, Minn.), junior
Nate Loxtercamp (Richmond, Minn./Melrose Area) and sophomore
Andrew Boemer (Eagan, Minn./St. Thomas Academy) – tied for eighth with a 150 (+9) each. Gutzmer eagled the par-5 No. 16 (471 yards) to finish with a 76 (+6), while Loxtercamp and Boemer matched yesterday's 75. Loxtercamp triple-bogeyed his first hole and went +2 the rest of the way, while Boemer played even-par over his last 11 holes. Boemer led the tournament with 27 pars.
Junior
Blake Schuler (Waconia, Minn.) finished two shots behind the trio to tie for 20th with a 152 (+11).
Junior
Mark Longhenry (Bloomington, Minn./Holy Angels) matched Berger's 1-over par 71 on Sunday to finish in a tie for fourth – the first top-five finish of his collegiate career – with a 148 (+7) to lead SJU White.
Freshman
Will Gruidl (Edina, Minn./Minnehaha Academy), like Gutzmer, eagled No. 16 and led SJU Blue with a 153 (+12) to tie for 22nd.
The Johnnies face Gustavus for an 8 a.m. dual meet this Thursday, April 27, at Pioneer Creek G.C. (par 72) in Maple Plain.
