WAVERLY, Iowa – Saint John's track and field opened its outdoor season by completing the two-day Wartburg Outdoor Select on Sunday, April 2.
The Johnnies won three events and totaled 12 top-10 finishes.
Senior
Kevin Arthur (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park) led the way for SJU by winning two events, the 100- (10.63) and 200-meter (21.59) dashes. His time in the 100 is tied for 13th in NCAA Division III so far this season and the 200 is 14th. Arthur was also the second leg of SJU's 4x100-meter relay team (
Emanuel Popoca, Arthur,
Brady Labine,
Caden Wheeler) that placed second with a time of 42.41 seconds.
Freshman
Kole Guth (St. Peter, Minn.) claimed the Johnnies' other win with a height of 4.11 meters in the pole vault, and sophomore
Andrew Adams (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) was ninth (sixth among Division III) at 3.66 meters.
Senior
Riley Berg (Bemidji, Minn.) recorded the top time among Division III runners in the 800 meters (sixth overall out of 36 participants), 1:58.44, and senior
Brady Labine (Detroit Lakes, Minn.) was third in the 400-meter hurdles (55.48).
Junior
Carter Grove (Osakis, Minn.) claimed fourth, second among Division III runners, in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:38.49) and sophomore
Anthony Thurk (St. Bonifacius, Minn./Waconia) was third in the high jump (10th overall) with a height of 1.85 meters.
Senior
Alex Crnkovich (Omaha, Neb./Mount Michael Benedictine) took ninth (sixth among Division III jumpers) in the triple jump with a mark of 13.19 meters and sophomore
Eamon Cavanaugh (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park and River Forest) was ninth (fifth among Division III) in the 5k (15:34.69).
On Saturday, junior
Logan Hennen (Prior Lake, Minn.) finished fifth, third among Division III competitors, in the javelin with a distance of 50.85 meters, and senior
Eli Mollet (Jefferson, S.D./Bishop Heelan, Iowa) was fifth among Division III participants (14th overall) in the hammer throw (44.67 meters).
SJU travels to compete at the St. Thomas Tomcat Invitational at 3 p.m. Friday, April 7, in St. Paul.
