ST. PAUL, Minn. – Saint John's swimming and diving totaled 15 top-three finishes in a 218-82 loss to Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Saturday, Nov. 11, at St. Catherine's Butler Center Pool.
Junior
Carter Larson (Sartell, Minn./Sartell-St. Stephen) provided the Johnnies with their lone event win on the day - the 100-yard freestyle (47.89) - and finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.85).
Sophomore
Brayden Slavik (Green Isle, Minn./Chaska) collected three second-place finishes on the afternoon: the 500- (4:51.27) and 1,000-yard (9:56.39) freestyles, and the 400-yard individual medley (4:22.34).
Senior
Alex Heer (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) and freshman
Simon Nyangamoi (Harrisburg, S.D.) placed second (2:06.12) and third (2:06.37), respectively, in the 200-yard backstroke, while sophomore
Clay Megaw (Monticello, Minn.) claimed second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.19) and third in the 200-yard version (2:17.99).
Sophomore
Carsten Reuter (St. Cloud, Minn./Tech) took second in the 50-yard freestyle (22.36) and junior
Langston Philion (Maple Grove, Minn.) touched the wall third in the 200-yard butterfly (2:04.87).
Junior
Eli Grabinski (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice) placed third in both the 1- (252.50) and 3-meter (228.95) dives.
SJU's 400-yard freestyle (3:14.74; Reuter, Larson,
Colby Kern,
Alex King) and 400-yard medley (3:37.35; Slavik, Megaw, Philion, Larson) relays also finished third.
The Johnnies compete at Gustavus Adolphus' Grace Goblirsch Invitational at 9 a.m. next Saturday, Nov. 18, in St. Peter.
