Second-Half Barrage Gives SJU a 2-0 Road Win

Box Score

DULUTH, Minn. – Saint John's soccer scored two second-half goals, thanks to a 21-8 advantage in shots, in a 2-0 road win at St. Scholastica on Tuesday, Oct. 17.

SJU (7-4-4, 4-2-2 MIAC) held a slim, 7-6 edge in shots during a scoreless first half but burst onto the field after halftime and the offensive pressure finally broke through CSS (2-11-1, 0-7-1 MIAC) in the 62nd minute. Sophomore defender Noah Hermanson (St. Paul, Minn./Holy Angels) sent a long pass from the left sideline to sophomore forward Riley Buxell (Afton, Minn./Stillwater Area), who spun in the top of the box and sent a shot to the back of the net for his second goal of the season.

Senior midfielder Matt D. Anderson (Omaha, Neb./Creighton Prep) made it 3:10 later with his fourth goal of the season and 17th of his career. Junior defender Joe Pearson (St. Cloud, Minn./Tech) found sophomore midfielder Will Falkman (Waconia, Minn.) up the right side, who turned the corner and fed a hard-charging Anderson in the middle of the box.

Junior goalkeeper Evan Siefken (Lakeville, Minn./North) made seven saves for his sixth shutout of the season and 13th of his career.

The Johnnies return home to host No. 17 St. Olaf (11-3-1, 6-0-1 MIAC) at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at Haws Field.
