No. 12 SJU Golf Ties for Sixth at Golfweek's October Classic

DESTIN, Fla. – No. 12 Saint John's golf tied for sixth out of 25 teams at the elite Golfweek October Classic on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at the Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort's Raven G.C. (par 71).

The 25-team field consisted of 15 other nationally ranked programs, including eight in the top 10.

No. 2 Methodist (N.C.) fired a 7-under par 277 to win the tournament by 17 shots with a three-round total of 843 (-9). No. 6 Illinois Wesleyan was second with an 860 (+8), followed by No. 16 Lynchburg (Va.) at 861 (+9) and top-ranked Emory (Ga.) in fourth (+11, 863). No. 5 Carnegie Mellon, the defending NCAA Division III champions, placed fifth at 869 (+17), two shots ahead of the tie between SJU and No. 15 Sewanee (Tenn.) at 871 (+19).

Senior Blake Schuler (Waconia, Minn.) led SJU Tuesday with four birdies and an even-par 71. He double bogeyed his second hole and responded by going -2 on his final 16 holes to finish in a tie for 44th out of 125 golfers with a 221 (+8).

Senior Nate Loxtercamp (Richmond, Minn./Melrose Area) ended the three-day tournament as the top Johnnie on the leaderboard in a tie for 20th at 216 (+3). He went -1 on his last 13 holes Tuesday to post a 1-over par 72.

Junior Andrew Boemer (Eagan, Minn./St. Thomas Academy) countered a triple-bogey on No. 13 with three birdies on the back nine, including on Nos. 17-18, to post a 3-over par 74. He tied for 53rd with a 222 (+9).

Senior Sam Berger (Waconia, Minn.) recorded a 76 (+5) Tuesday to tie with Schuler for 44th, while senior Mark Longhenry (Bloomington, Minn./Holy Angels) tied for 60th (+10, 223). Longhenry tied for second in the tournament by shooting even-par on the 27 par-4 holes.

The Johnnies wrap up the fall portion of their 2023-24 schedule Oct. 29-31 at the NCAA Division III Preview in Boulder City, Nev. The Boulder City Creek Course will be the site of the 2024 NCAA Division III Championships in May.
