HAM LAKE, Minn. – Saint John's golf started the 2022-23 season with a win at the Augsburg Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 4, at Majestic Oaks G.C. (par 72) in Ham Lake.
The Johnnies tallied a 298 (+10) Sunday to finish with a two-day total of 597 (+21), four shots ahead of Bethel (+25, 601). Wisconsin-Eau Claire recorded Sunday's best round, a 295 (+7), to claim third (+26, 602).

Sam Berger (Waconia, Minn.) led SJU with a third-place finish out of 94 golfers with a two-round total of 146 (+2).

Blake Schuler (Waconia, Minn.) and sophomore
Andrew Boemer (Eagan, Minn./St. Thomas Academy) led the Johnnies Sunday with a 73 (+1) each. Schuler tied for seventh overall at 149 (+5) and Boemer tied for 12th at 150 (+6).

Nate Loxtercamp (Richmond, Minn./Melrose Area) led SJU with 24 pars in the tourney and tied for 17th (+8, 152), and senior
Thomas Gutzmer (Jordan, Minn.) rounded out the Johnnies' five in a tie for 40th (+14, 158).
Boemer, Schuler and Loxtercamp collected a birdie each on one of their final three holes, while Berger parred his final three holes to seal the victory.
SJU Blue claimed 13th (+60, 636) and was led by sophomore
Will Gruidl (Edina, Minn./Minnehaha Academy) in a tie for 35th (+13, 157). Junior
Thomas Ellis (Sartell, Minn./Sartell-St. Stephen) went -2 over his final seven holes Sunday to card a career-best 74 (+2).
The Johnnies return to the Twin Cities for Bethel's Minnesota Golf Classic next Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 10-11, at Pioneer Creek G.C. (par 72) in Maple Plain.
