SJU Returns to the Win Column, 6-3

FT. MYERS, Fla. - Saint John's baseball ended its four-game skid with a 6-3 win over Muskingum (Ohio) on Monday, March 7, in Ft. Myers, Fla.

The Johnnies (3-4 overall) broke open a 3-3 game with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. SJU loaded the bases with free passes – a walk and two hit batsmen – before senior Ethan Roe (Golden Valley, Minn./Blake) belted a two-run double and junior Zach Selchow (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) followed with an RBI single.

The Muskies (1-2 overall) scored the first run of the game on a sacrifice fly in the top of the second, but gave SJU the tying run via error in the bottom of the third.

SJU built a 3-1 lead thanks to two runs with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Sophomore Jordan Amundson (Eden Prairie, Minn.) grooved an RBI triple and scored on an RBI single from Ethan Roe. Roe finished 2-for-4 and junior second baseman Owen Dauk (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) went 2-for-3.

Muskingum tied the game with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Junior Cade Marsolek (Savage, Minn./Burnsville) started the game and allowed two runs on six hits in five innings. He struck out six and walked one in the no-decision.

Sophomore Alex Gwost (Little Falls, Minn.) made his first collegiate appearance and earned the win, allowing one run on two hits in two innings of relief. He struck out three and walked one.
 
Junior Matt Herold (North Oaks, Minn./Mounds View) hit his first batter, but set down the next six in order for his first collegiate save.

The Johnnies wrap up the Ft. Myers portion of the trip with a 9 a.m. ET doubleheader against Hiram (Ohio) on Tuesday, March 8, at Terry Park.
