MOORHEAD, Minn. - Saint John's hockey broke a 1-1 tie with three third-period goals to earn a 4-1 win and series split against Concordia on Friday, Feb. 4, in Moorhead.
All four SJU (12-6-2, 6-3-1 MIAC) goals were scored by underclassmen in a game that started around 8:25 p.m.
Sophomore forward
Josh Maucieri (Crosby, Minn.) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal on the power-play, his fourth tally of the season, 32 seconds into the third period.
Freshman defenseman
Cooper Anderson (White Bear Lake, Minn.) lit the lamp with his first collegiate goal, a shot from the right circle with a screen in front, 1:51 later.
Freshman forward
Jackson Sabo (Rosemount, Minn.) ended the scoring with his second goal of the season, and fifth point in six games as a Johnnie, with 7:44 remaining.
Sophomore forward
Nick Michel (Waconia, Minn.) gave the Johnnies a 1-0 lead with his ninth goal of the season 5:59 into the second period, 1:58 after junior forward
Dan Wieber (St. Joseph, Minn.) hit the crossbar on a breakaway.
The Cobbers (11-8-2, 8-3-1 MIAC) tied the game at 1-1, however, when Mason Plante scored with 11:36 left in the second.
Senior goaltender
Mac Berglove (Elk River, Minn.) made 37 saves to collect his 10th win of the season (10-4-2 record).
The Johnnies return home to host Hamline for a 7:30 p.m. non-conference on Monday, Feb. 7, at the Municipal Athletic Complex (MAC) in St. Cloud.
