COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's University senior forward Nick Michel (Waconia, Minn./Holy Family Catholic) and sophomore linebacker Cooper Yaggie (Breckenridge, Minn.) earned MIAC Athlete of the Week honors for their respective sports on Monday, Nov. 14.

Michel was named the MIAC Men's Hockey Offensive Player of the Week, while Yaggie earned MIAC Football Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Michel totaled five points (3g/2a) as SJU (4-1, 2-0 MIAC) opened its conference schedule with a sweep of Concordia over the weekend. He tallied a goal and an assist in Thursday night's 7-3 home win and added three points (2g/1a) on the power play in Saturday evening's 5-1 victory in Moorhead. He currently leads the team with five goals and is tied for the team lead in points with eight in four games played this season. His 2.0 points and 1.25 points per game lead the MIAC. 

SJU went 7-for-9 (77.8 percent) on the power play in the two-game series and is now 12-for-25 (48 percent) through the season's first five games.

The Johnnies begin a home-and-home series with St. Scholastica at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud (Online Tickets). The two teams complete the weekend series at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at Mars Lakeview Arena in Duluth.

Yaggie intercepted two passes, including one that he returned 61 yards for a touchdown late in the second quarter, in the Johnnies' 28-10 win over then-No. 9 Bethel on Saturday in the MIAC Championship game. He led SJU with 11 tackles (six solo), including two for a loss and one sack, while adding a pass breakup and a quarterback hurry. SJU intercepted the Royals five times and held BU to 49 yards rushing in the victory.

The fourth-ranked Johnnies (9-1, 7-1 MIAC) play host to Northwestern (6-4, 6-0 UMAC) in the first round of the NCAA Division III Playoffs at noon this Saturday, Nov. 19, in Clemens Stadium. - Online Tickets
