ST. PAUL, Minn. – Saint John's hockey ended a grueling stretch of four games in six days (3-0-1 record) with a 4-1 non-conference win over Hamline on Wednesday, Jan. 26, at the TRIA Rink in St. Paul.
The Johnnies (11-5-2, 5-2-1 MIAC) out-shot the Pipers (3-10-1, 1-5-0 MIAC) by a 39-24 margin and scored four unanswered goals, after HU (Brendan Sheehan) scored 8:56 into the game, to seal the victory.
SJU and Hamline rescheduled the Jan. 14-15 series as non-conference games for today (in St. Paul) and Feb. 7 (in St. Cloud).
Senior forward
Brady Dahl (Rochester, Minn.) tied the game at 1-1 with his first goal of the season with 35 seconds left in the opening frame.
Junior forward
Brett Meister (White Bear Lake, Minn.) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal, his second tally of the season, 5:14 into the second period.
Like Dahl's goal in the first period, SJU lit the lamp again late in the second when sophomore forward
Nick Michel (Waconia, Minn.) found the back of the net for the eighth time this season with 15 seconds remaining.
Junior captain
Auggie Moore (Edina, Minn.) ended the game's scoring with his eighth goal of the season, during a 5-on-3 power play, with 9:18 left in the contest.
Senior goaltender
Mac Berglove (Elk River, Minn.) made 23 saves to improve his record to 9-3-2 this season.
The Johnnies open a MIAC series against Concordia-Moorhead at 7 p.m. next Thursday, Feb. 3, at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.
