A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Saint John's (8-5-1, 4-2-0 MIAC) saw its six-game win streak come to an end with a 3-2 overtime loss last Friday (Jan. 14) at Wisconsin-Superior. The 3-on-3 overtime switched to a 4-on-3 power play for Superior 1:05 into the extra session and Reed Stark scored the game-winner on the man advantage 1:26 later.

Sophomore forward Nick Michel (Waconia, Minn.) gave SJU (8-5-1, 4-2-0 MIAC), which was playing its first game since Dec. 11, a 1-0 lead on a breakaway goal with 8:52 left in the first period. The goal was his seventh of the season.

Dylan Johnson tied the game at 1-1 with his 11th goal of the season, a deflection in front, 9:44 into the second period and Artur Terchiyev gave the home team the lead with 6:54 remaining in the game.

Sophomore forward Max Borst (Edina, Minn.) tied the game, however, 1:01 later. A shot from junior forward Jack Johnson (Bemidji, Minn.) was saved by the UWS goaltender, but the loose puck squirted in front of the crease to Borst, who stuffed it home for his fourth goal of the season.

Senior goaltender Mac Berglove (Elk River, Minn.) made a season-high 47 saves in the loss, his first since Nov. 18.

UWS recorded a 50-30 advantage in shots and went 1-for-3 on the power play, to the Johnnies' 0-for-4 showing.

LAST WINTER: The two teams split the season series last February (2021) with the visiting team winning each game.

Saint John's 5, at St. Scholastica 2 (Feb. 3, 2021)
SJU scored four goals in the first period en route to the 5-2 victory in Duluth. Junior forward Henry Enebak (Lakeville, Minn.) scored two power-play goals, Johnson collected three assists and senior goaltender Michael Magnuson (Sunfish Lake, Minn.) made 33 saves in his first collegiate appearance/start for the Johnnies.

SJU was awarded a power play 59 seconds into the game and did not wait long to find the scoreboard as Enebak ripped a one-timer from the left faceoff circle 1:04 later.

The Johnnies erupted for two goals in a span of 20 seconds near the halfway mark of the opening frame. Jack Kilroy made it 2-0 with his first collegiate goal 8:43 in and senior forward (now defenseman) Jerome Newhouse (Shorewood, Minn.) lit the lamp 20 seconds later.

Junior forward Auggie Moore (Edina, Minn.) found the stat sheet with a goal at the 12:32 mark of the first period.

Tyler Hinterser erased the shutout for CSS on a breakaway goal with 3:45 remaining in the first and Jon Hansen cut the deficit to 4-2 with 35 seconds left before intermission.

Enebak stretched SJU's lead back to three with his second power-play goal of the night 5:54 into the second period.

St. Scholastica 3, at Saint John's 1 (Feb. 10, 2021)
The Johnnies' potent scoring offense turned cold in a 3-1 non-conference loss to St. Scholastica last Feb. 10 at the HBNHC in St. Cloud. SJU, which scored 17 goals over its previous three games, generated a season-high 45 shots on net (40 even-strength) but only mustered one goal.

St. Scholastica led 1-0 after the first period, thanks to a power-play goal from Carson Rose at the 12:13 mark, despite a 15-6 shot deficit.

The Saints added two more goals, 1:40 apart, halfway through the second period before Tanner Dufault '21 put SJU on the scoreboard with his second goal of the season, and 10th of his career, with 5:20 remaining in the frame.

Fresh off a 5-for-5 showing on the power play in Feb. 7's 8-2, conference win over Bethel, SJU went 0-for-3 against CSS.

SERIES HISTORY: The Johnnies lead the series with a 17-12-1 record since 1988, despite a 1-4-1 mark in the last six meetings at the HBNHC. The series is even at 8-8-1 this century.
