Alade ’20 Signs Pro Contract in Ireland, Joins Walford ’20 with Drogheda

9/22/2021 12:00:00 PM

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's University graduate Jubie Alade '20 signed with the Drogheda Wolves, a professional team in Ireland's National Basketball Division 1 league, which announced the signing on Wednesday, Sept. 22.

Alade joins former teammate Lucas Walford '20, who signed with Drogheda last September. Walford and the Wolves did not compete in 2020-21, however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Alade's SJU honors include:

•    2019-20 MIAC Co-Player of the Year;
•    2019-20 D3hoops.com All-West Region first team;
•    2019-20 NABC All-West District first team;
•    2019-20 All-MIAC first team;
•    2-time All-MIAC third team (2017-18, 2018-19);
•    2017-18 MIAC Sixth Man of the Year;
•    2016-17 MIAC All-Freshman team.

Alade led SJU in scoring (18.7 ppg.) and steals (37), while shooting 57 percent (167-for-293) from the field and 50 percent (39-for-78) from three-point range as a senior in 2019-20. His .892 free-throw percentage (132-for-148) was good for 11th in NCAA Division III, fourth among those with 125 attempts or more.

He led the league in three-point percentage (.536) and free-throw percentage (.896), and finished fourth in scoring (18.3 ppg.) in conference play as SJU rolled to a 19-1 MIAC record in 2019-20.

Alade ended his career sixth in school history with 1,418 points. He scored 12 points or more in all 27 games played in 2019-20 and in each of his last 34 contests going back to 2018-19.

SJU (27-2 overall) tied the program record for single-season wins (1978-79), won its ninth MIAC regular-season title and seventh MIAC Playoff championship, and made its third consecutive NCAA Division III Tournament appearance in 2019-20.

The Johnnies advanced to the third round (Sweet 16) of the NCAA Tournament, but the season abruptly ended with the NCAA's cancellation of all winter and spring championships due to the COVID-19 pandemic. SJU ended the season ranked No. 2 nationally in the final D3hoops.com Top 25 poll.
