SJU Wins Events at Two Meets Saturday

Northern State Results | Hamline Results

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Saint John's track and field split for two road meets on Saturday, April 24. 

The Johnnies' distance runners competed at the Hamline Showcase in St. Paul, while the rest of the team participated at the Northern State Open in Aberdeen, S.D. Team scores were not calculated at either meet.

Sophomore Mitch Grand (Hutchinson, Minn.) won the 1,500 meters in a season-best time of 3:55.90 and sophomore Alexei Hensel (Buffalo, Minn.) claimed fifth (4:05.94).

Sophomore Tom Nemanich (Red Wing, Minn.) led four Johnnies uncontested in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a season-best time of 9:52.20.

Sophomore Lloyd Young (Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy) took fifth in the 5,000 meters (15:03.02) and classmate Nathan Clausing (Big Lake, Minn.) was SJU's top finisher in the 800 meters, fifth, with a time of 2:00.03.

Northern State Open
Sophomore Maguire Petersen (Hutchinson, Minn.) won two events, the high jump (1.95 meters) and javelin (57.95 meters). Senior Kyle McKinney (Nassau, Bahamas/St. Augustine's) and sophomore Brett Hague (Brainerd, Minn.) followed Petersen in fourth (51.43 meters) and fifth (46.83 meters) in the javelin.

Senior Drew Dockendorf (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Holdingford) made his outdoor debut in the pole vault and won the event with a height of 4.70 meters, six inches ahead of junior Shawn Schindler (Maple Grove, Minn.) in second (4.55 meters).

The Johnnies' 4x100-meter relay (J. Young, Arthur, Brady Labine, Miller) won the race with a time of 42.99 seconds.

Senior Ryan Miller (Maple Grove, Minn./Totino-Grace) and sophomore Kevin Arthur (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park) finished second (10.87) and third (10.91), respectively, in the 100-meter dash, while junior Jack Young (Cold Spring, Minn./Rocori) and Miller placed second (22.43) and third (22.49) in the 200-meter sprint.

Junior Michael Wallace (Nassau, Bahamas/St. Anne's) finished third in the long jump (6.64 meters) and fifth in the triple jump (13.45 meters). Junior Omavi Collison (Nassau, Bahamas/St. Anne's) took fourth in the 400-meter dash (50.90) and sophomore Jared Stanke (Anoka, Minn./Elk River) was fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (58.07).

The Johnnies visit St. Thomas for an invitational on Friday, April 30, in St. Paul.
