COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - Saint John's sophomore Maguire Petersen (Hutchinson, Minn.) finished second out of 16 participants in the Johnnies' two-day decathlon on Sunday, April 18, in Collegeville.

Petersen entered the final five events Sunday in first place. He won the javelin with a distance of 58.64 meters, the third-longest throw in SJU history, which is currently ninth in NCAA Division III this spring. He also took second in the discus (30.78 meters) to finish with 5,965 points.

Bethel's Lukas Walton won the decathlon with 6,053 points thanks to first-place finishes in the 110-meter hurdles and the final event, the 1,500-meter run.

Freshman Logan Hennen (Prior Lake, Minn.) claimed 11th (4,831 points) and sophomore Mason DeGross (New Prague, Minn.) was 14th (4,302 points).

A majority of the SJU track and field team travels west to compete at the Northern State (S.D.) Open at noon this Saturday, April 24.
