COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's track and field hosted an invitational for the fourth consecutive weekend on Saturday, April 17, in Clemens Stadium. And for the fourth consecutive weekend, SJU took first place.
The Johnnies won seven events and collected 23 top-three performances for 229 points, ahead of St. Thomas (189) and Wisconsin-River Falls (103.5), among others.
SJU placed the top three in the 100-meter dash, led by senior
Ryan Miller's (Maple Grove, Minn./Totino-Grace) season-best time of 10.67 seconds. The time is good for fourth in NCAA Division III this season. Sophomore
Kevin Arthur (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park) and junior
Jack Young (Cold Spring, Minn./Rocori) followed in second (11.01) and third (11.11), respectively.
The trio, with senior
Brady Labine (Detroit Lakes, Minn.), also won the 4x100-meter relay in 42.48 seconds.
The Johnnies also tallied the top three places in the pole vault. Junior
Shawn Schindler (Maple Grove, Minn.) and sophomore
Joe Stauffer (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) tied for first with a height of 4.31 meters, and freshman
Joe Charbonneau (New Richmond, Wis.) was third (4.16 meters).
Junior
Omavi Collison (Nassau, Bahamas/St. Anne's) won the 200-meter dash in a season-best 22.85 seconds and classmate
Seth Cattoor (Marshall, Minn.) was third (23.05), 0.01 from second place.
Sophomore
Tom Nemanich (Red Wing, Minn.) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:07.36) and junior
Nathan Meyer (Iowa City, Iowa/Regina) was second (10:09.68), while senior
Ryan Murphy (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) took first in the discus 43.64 meters, two inches ahead of sophomore
Gavin Rupp (Villard, Minn./Minnewaska Area) in second (43.59 meters).
Senior
Kyle McKinney (Nassau, Bahamas/St. Augustine's) took first in the javelin (52.03 meters) and sophomore
Brett Hague (Brainerd, Minn.) was second (49.55 meters)
Sophomore
Jared Stanke (Anoka, Minn./Elk River) claimed second in the 110-meter hurdles (15.23) and third in the 400-meter event (58.78), and juniors
Dillon Diekmann (Lake Elmo, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) and
Andy Goldsmith (Tulsa, Okla./Cascia Hall) were second (15:40.55) and third (15:43.52) in the 5,000 meters.
Junior
Michael Wallace (Nassau, Bahamas/St. Anne's) finished second in both the long jump (6.48 meters) and triple jump (13.57 meters), while junior
Sam Rademacher (Marshall, Minn.) took second-place honors in the high jump (1.90 meters).
The Johnnies travel west to compete at the Northern State (S.D.) Open at noon next Saturday, April 24.
Decathlon
Sophomore
Maguire Petersen (Hutchinson, Minn.) is currently in first place out of 16 competitors in the decathlon with 3,415 points. He won the high jump (2.00 meters) and shot put (12.31 meters), took second in the long jump (6.43 meters) and third in the 100-meter dash (11.66).
Freshman
Logan Hennen (Prior Lake, Minn.) is 10th (2,786 points), thanks to his sixth-place finish in the long jump (6.04 meters).
