Game 1 Box Score | Game 2 Box Score

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Saint John's baseball powered to a much-needed doubleheader sweep of Augsburg, 16-1 and 9-0, on Saturday, April 17, at Parade Stadium in Minneapolis.

The Johnnies (14-8, 4-7 MIAC) batted .392 (29-for-74) on the day with nine extra-base hits (six doubles and three triples), while three pitchers combined for one earned run allowed in 16 innings.

Augsburg (4-16, 2-10 MIAC) entered the doubleheader with a MIAC-low .259 slugging percentage and put a run on the scoreboard first thanks to back-to-back, two-out doubles in the bottom of the first inning off junior Nathan Brandecker (South St. Paul, Minn.). SJU went on to score 25 unanswered runs in the twinbill.

Brandecker went the distance for his first win of the season. He struck out seven and walked one in seven innings.

Freshman Kody Dalen (Carver, Minn./Chanhassen) made his first collegiate start in game two and pitched seven scoreless innings to improve to 4-0 on the year. He struck out six and allowed six hits.

Sophomore Hunter Ault (North Oaks, Minn./Mounds View) completed the shutout with two spotless innings of relief. He struck out four, including the side in the ninth.

Sophomore shortstop Matt Hayford (Rochester, Minn./Lourdes) led SJU's offense with a 6-for-10 performance and six runs scored from the No. 9 spot in the lineup. He is now 8-for-13 (.615) with seven runs scored over the Johnnies' last three games.

Sophomore designated hitter Max Nyrop (Alameda, Calif.) batted 3-for-7 with three walks and a team-high five RBI in the two games.

Freshman outfielder Rodney Erickson (St. Paul, Minn./Woodbury) collected four hits and four runs, while freshman third baseman Joe Becker (New Prague, Minn.) added two doubles and four RBI. Erickson, junior catcher Ethan Roe (Golden Valley, Minn./Blake) and sophomore first/third baseman Zach Selchow (Rosemount, Minn./Eastview) drove in three apiece.

The Johnnies host the Auggies for a nine-inning game at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 18, at Becker Park in Collegeville.
