COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's tennis suffered a 7-2 setback to St. Thomas on Sunday, April 11, at the Chang Tennis Complex in Collegeville.
Senior
Thomas Gillach (Lindstrom, Minn./Chisago Lakes) and sophomore
Wil McDowell (Sioux Falls, S.D./O'Gorman) cruised to an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles, improving to 5-1 this spring for SJU (5-2, 4-2 MIAC), but the Tommies eked out close wins at No. 2 (8-6) and No. 3 (8-5).
Gillach, like at the top doubles spot, improved to 5-1 this season with a victory at No. 1 singles: 7-6 (7-4), 6-2.
Senior
Nate Jordre (St. Cloud, Minn./Tech) fell at No. 2 singles via the super-breaker (6-4, 4-6, 10-7) and UST (6-3, 4-0 MIAC) won the other four singles matches in straight sets.
The Johnnies play host to Bethel for a 3 p.m. match on Saturday, April 17, in Collegeville.
