Familiar Faces Lead SJU to Another Meet Victory

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - Saint John's won nine events to take first at its Last-Minute Invitational on Saturday, April 10, in Clemens Stadium.

The Johnnies collected 26 top-three performances for 235 points. Concordia was second (164) and Northwestern was third (71).

Senior Ryan Miller (Maple Grove, Minn./Totino-Grace) won the 100-meter dash with a season-best time of 10.73 seconds and junior Jack Young (Cold Spring, Minn./Rocori) followed in second (10.96). The duo repeated the performance in the 200-meter dash, as Miller won the race by a hair ahead of Young, 22.43-22.45. Miller's time in the 100-meter sprint is currently tied for ninth in NCAA Division III.

Sophomore Lloyd Young (Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy) led three Johnnies to win the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:03.26. Sophomores Alexei Hensel (Buffalo, Minn.) and Mitch Grand (Hutchinson, Minn.) placed second (4:05.96) and third (4:07.62), respectively. Young's day was not done, however, as he also won the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:20.84. Sophomore Tom Nemanich (Red Wing, Minn.) took third (15:58.44).

Sophomore Jared Stanke (Anoka, Minn./Elk River) won both the 110- (15.41) and 400-meter (59.68) hurdles. Both times were season bests for Stanke, who led four uncontested Johnnies in the 400-meter event.

The Johnnies recorded the top four heights in the pole vault, led by junior Shawn Schindler (Maple Grove, Minn.) at 4.65 meters, while sophomore Maguire Petersen (Hutchinson, Minn.) and junior Sam Rademacher (Marshall, Minn.) were 1 (1.95 meters)-2 (1.90 meters) in the high jump. Petersen also took second in the javelin (52.52 meters) and sophomore Brett Hague (Brainerd, Minn.) was third (49.08 meters).

Junior Michael Wallace (Nassau, Bahamas/St. Anne's) won the triple jump (13.68 meters) and sophomore Alex Crnkovich (Omaha, Neb./Mount Michael Benedictine) was third (12.63 meters).

Senior Ryan Murphy (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) and junior Nathan Meyer (Iowa City, Iowa/Regina) placed second in the discus (42.23 meters) and 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:10.22), respectively. Junior Jacob Reding (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Eagan) was SJU's top finisher, third, in the 400-meter dash (52.05).

The Johnnies are scheduled to host another invitational at 11 a.m. next Saturday, April 17, as well as their two-day decathlon that wraps up at noon Sunday, April 18.
