Another Meet, Another Win for SJU Track & Field

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - Saint John's track and field won its four-team invitational on Saturday, March 6, in the Donald McNeely Spectrum.

The Johnnies won six events and totaled 15 top-three finishes/marks on the afternoon for 167 points, followed by St. Thomas (146), Concordia (89) and Gustavus Adolphus (71).

The Johnnies recorded the 60-meter dash's top three times, led by senior Ryan Miller (Maple Grove, Minn./Totino-Grace) in 7.03 seconds. Sophomore Kevin Arthur (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park) was an eyelash behind in 7.04 and junior Jack Young (Cold Spring, Minn./Rocori) was third (7.15). Young also posted a season-best time of 22.83 seconds to place second in the 200-meter dash (22.83).

Senior Drew Dockendorf (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Holdingford) won the pole vault with a season-best height of 4.73 meters and junior Shawn Schindler (Maple Grove, Minn.) followed in second (4.35 meters).

The Johnnies did well in the distance-running events, as sophomore Lloyd Young (Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy) and junior Andy Goldsmith (Tulsa, Okla./Cascia Hall) won the 3,000 meters (8:54.92) and 5,000 meters (15:36.87), respectively. Sophomore Mitch Grand (Hutchinson, Minn.) crossed the finish line with a season-best time of 4:18.00 to take second in the mile run.

Sophomore Gavin Rupp (Villard, Minn./Minnewaska Area) finished second in the weight throw, first among collegiate competitors, with a toss of 17.28 meters. The mark ties him for 12th in NCAA Division III.

Junior Michael Wallace (Nassau, Bahamas/St. Anne's) took first in the triple jump (13.88 meters) and sophomore Alex Crnkovich (Omaha, Neb./Mount Michael Benedictine) claimed third (12.71 meters).

Sophomore Maguire Petersen (Hutchinson, Minn.) and junior Sam Rademacher (Marshall, Minn.) finished 2 (1.90 meters)-3 (1.85 meters) in the high jump, while sophomore Alexei Hensel (Buffalo, Minn.) placed third in the 800 meters (1:56.62).
