COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - The weather could have been better, but the meet itself was a long time coming.
Saint John's track and field won 11 events en route to a triangular victory on Saturday, March 27, in Collegeville.
The outdoor meet was SJU's first since the 2019 NCAA Division III Championships, held May 23-25 in Geneva, Ohio - a span of 672 days.
The Johnnies collected 32 top-three performances for a total of 168 points, followed by Concordia-Moorhead (97) and Minnesota-Morris (45).
Senior
Ryan Miller (Maple Grove, Minn./Totino-Grace) recorded the top time (10.91), among nine SJU student-athletes, in the 100-meter dash and sophomore
Tom Nemanich (Red Wing, Minn.) led four uncontested Johnnies in his 2021 debut in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:11.51).
Sophomore
Kevin Arthur (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park) topped Miller by 0.01 to win the nine-man, all-SJU field in the 200-meter dash (23.17).
Junior
Dillon Diekmann (Lake Elmo, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) won the seven-man event, the first six of which represented SJU, in the 5,000 meters (15:53.06) and sophomore
Lloyd Young (Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy) crossed the finish line first in the 10,000 meters (31:47.32).
Sophomore
Jared Stanke (Anoka, Minn./Elk River) finished first among three Johnnies in the 110-meter hurdles (15.94) and senior
Brady Labine (Detroit Lakes, Minn.) took second in the 400-meter event (1:01.05).
Freshman
Andrew Wenner (Cold Spring, Minn./Saint John's Prep) edged sophomore
Jorge Hernandez (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson) by 0.01 of a second to win the 400-meter dash in 53.93 seconds.
In the field events, SJU claimed the top three distances in the javelin, led by sophomore
Brett Hague (Brainerd, Minn.) at 44.64 meters.
Junior
Sam Rademacher (Marshall, Minn.) won the high jump (1.80 meters) and classmate
Michael Wallace (Nassau, Bahamas/St. Anne's) took first in the triple jump (14.00 meters).
Sophomore
Gavin Rupp (Villard, Minn./Minnewaska Area) finished second in the hammer throw (46.01 meters) and senior
Ryan Murphy (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) claimed third (43.18 meters). Murphy also placed second in the discus with a throw of 40.01 meters.
Freshman
Joe Charbonneau (New Richmond, Wis.) and sophomore
Joe Stauffer (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) tied for second in the pole vault (3.95 meters).
The Johnnies' 4x100-meter relay team (
Matt Gish, Arthur,
Jack Young, Miller) was the lone competitor in the event and sprinted to a time of 43.47 seconds.
The Johnnies host a multi-team invitational at noon on Good Friday, April 2, in Clemens Stadium.
