WAVERLY, Iowa - Saint John's track and field recorded three second-place finishes at the first day of the Division III Elite Indoor Championships on Friday, March 12, in Wartburg's Hoover Fieldhouse.

Sophomore
Lloyd Young (Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy) finished second in the 5,000 meters with a personal-best time of 14:49.63. The time is the fifth-fastest in program history and good for seventh in NCAA Division III this season.
Junior
Michael Wallace (
left, courtesy of Wartburg; Nassau, Bahamas/St. Anne's) placed second in the triple jump with a season-best mark of 14.18 meters, which is the 12th-best nationally.
Junior
Shawn Schindler (
right; Maple Grove, Minn.) was seeded fifth and 34th nationally in the pole vault (4.35 meters), but claimed second in the event with a personal-best height of 4.61 meters. Senior
Drew Dockendorf (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Holdingford) followed in fourth (4.46 meters) and sophomore
Joe Stauffer (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) placed eighth (4.01 meters).
Sophomore
Gavin Rupp (Villard, Minn./Minnewaska Area) finished sixth in the weight throw with a distance of 16.13 meters, his second toss of the day. He entered the meet 16th nationally in the weight throw with a season-best mark of 17.28 meters.
Senior
Ryan Miller (Maple Grove, Minn./Totino-Grace) and sophomore
Kevin Arthur (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park) participated in the 60-meter dash prelims but did not qualify for Saturday's final. Miller (7.083) fell 0.004 of a second from the ninth and final qualifying time (7.079) to take 11th and Arthur was 14th (7.14).
The final day of competition begins for SJU at 10 a.m. with sophomore
Jaeden Frost (Omro, Wis.) in the shot put, while sophomore
Alexei Hensel (Buffalo, Minn.) races at 12:20 p.m. in the 800 meters.
