ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - Saint John's track and field won nine events in a triangular victory at Bethel on Saturday, Feb. 20, in Arden Hills.
The Johnnies totaled 22 top-three finishes to post 81.5 points, followed by the host Royals (68.5) and Augsburg (11).
SJU recorded the top three times in the 400-meter dash, as well as the three best heights in both the high jump and pole vault.
Senior
Brady Labine (Detroit Lakes, Minn.) led the field in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.68 seconds. Junior
Jacob Reding (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Eagan) and freshman
Carson Davis (New Prague, Minn.) followed in second (53.08) and third (53.81), respectively.
Sophomore
Maguire Petersen (Hutchinson, Minn.) won the high jump with a season-best mark of 1.95 meters, while junior
Sam Rademacher (Marshall, Minn.) placed second (1.83 meters) and sophomore
Jared Meier (Jordan, Minn./Shakopee) tied for third (1.73 meters).
Senior
Drew Dockendorf (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Holdingford) earned first-place honors in the pole vault with a season-best height of 4.55 meters. Freshman
Joe Charbonneau (New Richmond, Wis.) and sophomore
Joe Stauffer (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) tied for second (4.10 meters).
Senior
Ryan Miller (Maple Grove, Minn./Totino-Grace) won the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.11 seconds and sophomore
Kevin Arthur (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park) followed in third (7.21). Junior
Jack Young (Cold Spring, Minn./Rocori), who was 0.01 behind Arthur in fourth (7.22), also finished third in the 200-meter dash (23.53).
Sophomore
Mitch Grand (Hutchinson, Minn.) took first in the 3,000 meters with a personal-best time of 9:00.98 and junior
Eli Mollet (Jefferson, S.D./Bishop Heelan Catholic) won the weight throw with a toss of 16.32 meters.
Junior
Michael Wallace (Nassau, Bahamas/St. Anne's) and sophomore
Alex Crnkovich (Omaha, Neb./Mount Michael Benedictine) were uncontested in the triple jump. Wallace recorded a mark of 13.14 meters on his first jump and Crnkovich posted a distance of 11.95 meters on his final leap.
Sophomore
Alexei Hensel (Buffalo, Minn.) won the two-man, 1,000-meter race with a personal-best time of 2:34.54 and the Johnnies' 4x200-meter relay (
Mack Maroushek, Labine, Davis, Reding) placed first with a time of 1:35.53.
Sophomore
Gavin Rupp (Villard, Minn./Minnewaska Area) finished second in the shot put with a personal-best toss of 13.38 meters and classmate
Brett Hague (Brainerd, Minn.) was third (12.76 meters).
Freshman
Tommy Allen (Woodbury, Minn./St. Paul Academy) made his SJU debut and claimed second in the 800 meters (2:01.10). Senior
Ryan Thompson (Minneapolis, Minn./Edina) took third in the long jump (5.79 meters).
The Johnnies return home to host Concordia-Moorhead at 11 a.m. next Sunday, Feb. 28, in the Donald McNeely Spectrum.
