Another Late Goal Hands SJU a 2-1 Defeat

DULUTH, Minn. – Saint John's soccer suffered another late loss, 2-1, at St. Scholastica on Tuesday, Oct. 26, in Duluth.

Jordan Finneran scored the game-winning goal for CSS (7-9-1, 3-5-1 MIAC) with 2:22 remaining. The opposition has now scored the deciding goal in the 83rd minute or later in each of the Johnnies' last four losses.

The Saints gained a 1-0 lead on a goal from Chris Galley in the 24th minute.

Junior midfielder Matt D. Anderson (Omaha, Neb./Creighton Prep) tied the game at 1-1 for SJU (7-7-1, 4-5-0 MIAC) with his fourth goal of the season (seventh of his career) early in the 74th minute. A corner kick from senior forward Tommy Picka (Victoria, Minn./Chaska) found junior forward Ryan Erickson (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Eagan), who chipped it to Anderson for the game-tying tally.

An SJU goal from senior forward Guy Mohs (Long Lake, Minn./Orono) was disallowed, and instead a foul was issued, in the 53rd minute.

Freshman goalkeeper Evan Siefken (Lakeville, Minn./North) made four saves in the loss.

CSS posted a narrow edge in shots, 13-11, though shots on net were even at 7-7. SJU out-shot the Saints 7-4 in the second half and recorded a 7-4 margin in corner kicks for the game.

The Johnnies return home to host Carleton (10-3-2, 7-2-0 MIAC) for the regular-season finale at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, at Haws Field.
