MIAC Release

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Presidents' Council announced today (Aug. 31) that it has postponed all fall and winter competition for member schools through Dec. 31.

"Though both the MIAC Athletic Directors' and Presidents' Councils felt that MIAC institutions have made every reasonable effort to return to competition as safely as possible through stringent on-campus and conference planning, guidance from the Minnesota Department of Health, and NCAA resocialization requirements, the latest NCAA Administrative Committee recommendation led the conference to reach the difficult decision to postpone competition through the fall term.

"The delay in competition will grant institutions, staff, and students additional time to adjust to new safety protocols on campus in the COVID-19 era while also allowing for continued testing and treatment developments, which remain a key factor for the return of athletics across the nation."

The MIAC's decision immediately impacts the SJU golf program, which was scheduled to open its 2020-21 season this weekend (Sept. 5-6) at Bunker Hills Golf Club in Coon Rapids. The MIAC Golf Championship will be rescheduled to accompany the rest of the spring 2021 schedule.

The Johnnie golf team will continue to practice and train this fall, along with the SJU cross country, football, soccer and tennis programs.

Winter sports (basketball, hockey, swimming and diving, wrestling) will be able to practice and train as during their typical preseason schedule.

Coaches and administrators will work on developing revised schedules over the next month.
